AIGA, the professional association for design, stimulates thinking about design, demonstrates the value of design and empowers the success of designers at each stage of their careers. AIGA’s mission is to advance designing as a professional craft, strategic tool and vital cultural force. Founded in 1914, AIGA remains the oldest and largest professional membership organization for design, and is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) educational institution.(1) AIGA Boston is one of the oldest and largest chapters in the United States. I have been a member of AIGA Boston for over 16 years, and have been volunteering on the Board of Directors since 2006.

AIGA Boston Education Co-Chair  |  2011 – present

  • Create an awareness and presence within the design education community through lecture and visitation
  • Build relationships among students and design educators in Boston and Greater Boston area
  • Facilitate and support student group initiatives
  • Coordinate events such as New Voices, Unique Visions student design competition, and the Annual Student Portfolio Review

AIGA Boston Vice President  |  2008  –  2011

  • Facilitate action, ownership, and collaboration among Boston board members
  • Engage with board members on big-picture goals
  • Brainstorm creative strategies for event planning
  • Align events with membership goals and needs
  • Forecast financial needs and financial planning
  • Assess event outcomes for future event planning

AIGA Boston Education Director  |  2006 – 2008

  • Create an awareness and presence within the design education community through lecture and visitation
  • Build relationships among students and design educators in Boston and Greater Boston area
  • Facilitate and support student group initiatives
  • Coordinated and awarded the Tim Moore Study Abroad Scholarship
  • Planning and execution of the Annual Student Portfolio Review

Dynamic Media Institute (DMI) Advisory Council  |  2010 – present

The Advisory Council exits to strengthen the DMI community and to promote the principles and values relevant to the goals of DMI. They shape the strategic direction and intellectual focus of the DMI program in the areas of future development of the organization, its operations, curriculum, marketing and fund-raising efforts, and visibility of the institute to the design and development community.

Responsibilities:

  • Attending bimonthly board meetings
  • Advising DMI leadership and helping the organization achieve goals
  • Serving as an enthusiastic DMI advocate in academia and industry
  • Identifying and recruiting potential speakers, lecturers and guest critics
  • Engaging individuals and corporate partners for funding and sponsorship
